Talks and Training : A Magic Lantern show

To attend a Magic Lantern Show around 1900 would have been a magical experience. Not only would the Lanternist show you slides of great interest and fun, he would also make many of these images move.

For this Magic Lantern Show, I use a Lantern made about 1895. I will start by talking about the history of the Magic Lantern and then go on to use the Lantern, not only with fixed slides, but also show many moving examples.
Because of the limitations of the Lantern, this show is only offered for evening bookings between October and March. My “Victorian Slide Show” using a modern projector, is available throughout the year.

Here is an extract from just one letter received concerning this show:

"Thank you so much for coming along to entertain our group with your Magic Lantern.  It was lovely to see everyone smiling and laughing at the simple comic pictures. A far cry from today's X-boxes! The historical slides also gave an interesting insight into life over a hundred years ago. Thank you once again for a most enjoyable evening."

A slip slide. On this example, the barbers arm and razor move.
